Mining Mingle!

GATHERING

Posters had begun to go up, written in many languages and given many different names, but it was clear. A big mining trip had been planned, but the one who signed the papers seemed to neglect a name. People could keep what they got! Outside, however, a small wisp of darkness had been left - holding equipment. It doesn't seem to know exactly how to explain what's going to happen - seeming to mumble about green pigs and nice rocks.

Or, if you're not going in, why not catch up with some friends? There's also food which has been left out - fresh fruits and the like.

Entering the mines, however, there's an old minecart... and stairs downwards. Seems there's no instructions... but there's rusted old weapons scattered around. And pickaxes.

INSIDE THE MINES

It doesn't take long for anybody to find things in the mines - though it begins as just stone and coal, soon people will be finding copper ore, amethyst, topaz, quartz - and even earth crystals! Just watch out - if you hit a rock wrong, you might get knocked back a little. Or some of the old mine might cave in...! There's stairs further and further downwards.

However... there seems to be somebody very invested in certain walls, running their hands against them. If you mine there? There seems to be a heavier rock, even if it looks like coal.

MONSTERS

Of course, the darkness lures creatures. There's slimes, sure. There's also bats, and Rock Crabs - perhaps even blocking your pickaxe! And there's also Slimes. But if you're not careful...

Well, the Green Pigs the weird wisp was whispering about? Actually Creepers. Some seem to be electrocuted, even! Make sure you don't fall down and lose your wealth! Are you going to protect somebody, or not? Or are you cutting though them easily?

I wouldn't be. I only exist in my iteration - and in that one, technically, you're a Scion as well. Or we're all members of the Ironworks. I never quite learned how that hurried paperwork ended up going...

[ Whoops, she's rambling, tail wrapping around herself. That's when she has to bring it up. ]

Actually, recently, I unearthed the possibility of Allagan technology allowing those without aether to summon and sustain creations. Machines, too. It was a painful battle against a simulated summoner, but I recorded what happened. I-- can let others experience my memories, you know. It's part of the ability known as the Echo - at least, how mine manifests. It's not as useful as the one the Warrior of Light has, I must admit - at least, for combat.

I'm a Scion. [Oh... His timelines somehow keep getting worse and worse. A Scion? Really? He needs to find these other Neros and shake some sense into them. And then he's going to find out what they've been working on... Because it will be undoubtedly be interesting.

And speaking of interesting...]

You're saying a Garlean could potentially be a summoner?

[It's such an interesting class and one of those things that are forever out of reach. But if there's a chance to be capable of doing so he'd absolutely dabble, for the math if nothing else.]

The Warrior of Light that I know told me about this Echo, though quite vaguely. I am under the assumption that those without Echos cannot receive memories in return. Unless of course yours is special... there seems to be quite a a few differences in your particular timeline. But then again, I am no expert on the Echo by any means.

...It's a long and complicated story - but either you're a Scion or every Scion is also an employee of Garlond Ironworks, and I prefer the former title. I can't say it's the choice everybody would choose - but that's fine. [ Bolormaa says, curling her tail around herself more. She doesn't wish to burden him with something he can't change. ]

But - Garleans could, I'm certain of it! Though it would not be the same as an Eorzean Summoner - for the residue Aether of a Primal may need to be sealed elsewhere, instead of being taken from the Summoner. It's still the same art... it's wonderful, isn't it? [ She looks so excited to explain! Oh, Bolormaa, you absolute DOPE. She's never considered this before, though! And being a lady of science, in a way, she's feeling more relaxed then actually mining.

She doesn't have the strength for that. However, she does have the strength to speak about her own Echo. ]

Mine is... special. I suppose being made of the same crystal as Hydaelyn makes me different. And my timeline being corrupt-- um, not in a way that'd hurt yours!

[Neither are great but he supposes if he must be one then he'd also take the former... (Even though he is technically, at present, an Ironworks employee. By choice...)]

It is... [And he does mean that. The chance to be something that his very birth denied him is always intriguing. The math and calculations are so fascinating and if he could just do it then there would be no end to experimentation. Granted he doesn't know a great deal about summoning but it seems like if your math is right and your capability with the elements is sound there is no end to what you could do.

Nero is so entranced with the idea of possibly having the chance to dabble in something like summoning he almost misses what she says next.]

Pray you'll need to run that by me again... Did you say you were made of the mother crystal?

[Nero wouldn't claim to be an expert on the Gods by any means but if you're made out of the crystal of a Goddess does that not make you a Goddess of some sort yourself? Or at least a demi one if nothing else.]

[ Bolormaa moves so she's sitting more comfortably, her Carbuncle bundling up on her with a squeak - shimmering like Bolormaa. Giving a small hm, she nodded. ]

...Yes, I did. [ But she should explain, huh? Just leaving it there would leave more questions - so Bolormaa continued. ]

Hydaelyn required a part of Herself to help protect Eorzea more directly - due to the threat of a planesgorger. Um - a creature that devoured my own shard, as they have thirteen before. [ A beat. ] It's fine. We managed to save everybodys' souls. Until a time that we can find a new home. This place is rather nice... but it doesn't feel right.

But I still exist past my purpose - and crafted this Carbuncle from the selfsame crystal I'm made from. I'm living crystal, they're a summon. Parts of the Mothercrystal, but not sharing a mind. Unlike the one I summon in Eorzea, this doesn't have my big sister in it. [ So, yes, she is a goddess. Even if she keeps calling herself family with Hydaelyn, distancing herself from being crafted from Her. (It's a big burden. She'd rather be seen as a person first.) ]

[She may not say it but he absolutely will.]

So you're as I suspected, a Goddess.

[A Goddess that is digging around in a mine in some strange world hub. That's... Well. He's certain he's lived through stranger things but this is right up there.]

If this place isn't right then why are you still here? Why not take the first bus back to where you came from. Or are you attempting to make it a place that is right?

[Messing with the balance of an already stable word feels like a poor thing to do. But then he's not intending to stay here so have at it for all he cares. Though it's possible that she, like him, is just scraping around in the depths for experimentation purposes. They both seem acclimated to the sciences to some extent. She a summoner and he an engineer. In some ways... the two are not terribly different.]

...I suppose you could call me that. [ She looks a little embarrassed, but quickly rights herself. She's no Goddess in her own head, but this is fine. ] I'm a goddess... but still quite young.

...no, I don't wish to meddle with this world - I don't think it's fair to those already here. [ Well, in that way, she thinks - giving a soft frown - getting out her grimoire, to open it. There's already notes on the differences in Eorzeas she's seen - and other people who've come here, their worlds. They're basic, but, well... she's got them. Lots of question marks in the Eorzean section, trying to figure out where timelines split.

Very clear in the corner is that she's written Amon is bad for Allag. And she's got a big line with lots of marks and small doodles of people. ]

But when given a chance to learn, why not grasp it? To seek a brighter future - or just to gain knowledge. [ Bolormaa can try and hide her passion, but she's got a wide smile - she loves the idea of just studying! It excites the strange living crystal. ] I never thought I'd see a non-Eorzean land--!! Though the fact we'd forget if we did catch a bus out is a little disappointing.

It is disappointing...

[Absurdly so. If he can't remember anything he's only wasting time. Why even bother staying?]

But I didn't come here to walk away empty handed or... headed, in this case. On top of researching the technology here that could perhaps prove to be useful back in Eorzea I intend to also find a way to bring back all the knowledge obtained. I don't intend to leave until I do. And surely there must be a way.

[But one thing at a time. Technology first. Then this remembering issue which is far outside his skill set so it's being saved for last.]

If I can figure it out then everyone can use it. [And then take that... Garlond whose not really his rival here. But take that all the same! A solution to the only current issue at present is certainly something to put your name on. It may not be a giant primal devouring weapon but it's just as good in this particular situation.]

After all - if there is way for Voidsent to travel between worlds, and keep memories between them? Or if Thancred and I could gather knowledge in a realm between time, and then use it to help... what makes this one so different--

[ Bolormaa catches herself, giving a swift nod. ]

Oh, I'm sorry. The paradoxial nature of this shard is more curious to me then the technology, I must admit. I, um. I'm not an engineer. If I can barely understand the maths that creates Carbuncle, then I'd not-- be a good engineer. Plus, Garleans have better eyes for it...

[She's not wrong and he'd been thinking along those lines too. There must surely be a way. He just has to find it. And find it he will.]

Math is math... it's the same in all languages and countries and kingdoms. Once you understand it you can do anything. That I promise you.

[He's definitely not offering to tutor anyone so don't get any funny ideas.

Nero shrugs and moves to stand and inspects what he'd gotten out of here once more. Lots of ore... ah well, that will prove useful eventually. If he makes friends with the right people he's certain he can have someone do this dull task for him.]

That being said... if you're in need of someone to look over your formulas, while I am no summoner, I'm certain I could get the gist of it.

[ Now, she knows her Nero a little. Not as much as she'd like. But he's busy with Doga and Unei and G'raha and all of them. But she's aware of how much of a chance this is, and Bolormaa gives a firm nod - she has other areas to investigate as well. ]

I would assist in my own way - I've written all that I've been told. And, again - if there are ways to use this new realm to assist the task of the impossible?

Then it's not impossible, Sir tol Scaeva. [ In other words - she is going to make sure Nero becomes a Summoner. Somehow. Listen, she'd use the power of the Void and the Realm of Light, if she could. A pause, before: ] If you wish to get in contact with me, I think these devices have private contact methods. Not as nice as a Linkpearl, but less hackable.

[Less hackable? He'll have to see about that. He intends to crack his open and find out just what it's made of.]

I don't doubt you'll be useful. [Her knowledge is skewed from his own Eorzea and that's valuable all on its own. But she seems to have a better inkling about what's going on in this place as well. With his mathematics and engineering there must surely be a way to find a solution to the current state of affairs.] So I'll send you the address to my estate as well. [It's a farm Nero.] Just in case you can't get a hold of me via these things.

I'm all for profitable relationships. I think we'll serve each other well.
